Jure set the fastest time on Saturday and also later on Sunday in the big finals. His average speed was 42.83 km/h, which is a more than respectful number! His time was 2:22.891, beating Žiga for three seconds. The rest of the podium was filled by Miran Vauh (Slovenia, Blackthorn GT), Slawomir Lukasik (Poland, NS Bikes FroPro) and Manuel Gruber (Radon Magura Factory). Nal Otoničar was 19th in the junior category.
This is great result for Unior Tools Team riders and a great boost for the upcoming races. This is what our two winners had to say after the race:
Jure Žabjek, winner: “Right away I felt that the track is faster than in the previous years. It was a combination of really hard soil and also the fact that we are on 27,5-inch Sessions now. The track really suits me, I was always fast here and I’m really happy to take another win here! Competition was hard, and we were simply faster on this track that in not like anything in the World Cup. It’s a shame that they will not do the race any more, I will miss the event.”
Žiga Pandur, 2nd place: “The competition was really hard this year in Buzet. My goal was to get back in the right racing form after the race in France, and that goal was achieved. This track is kind of that in Pietermaritzburg, you have to let it go as much as possible, and a little bit more. Simple and fast. Congratulations to Jure for second victory in a row on this track!”
