22 August 2015    Reece   Ruaridh   Ziga   VDS

Huge crowd came to Val di Sole today to support the best downhill racers in the world – according to organizers 15 thousand people were on the hill and around the Black Snake downhill track. The ground was completely dry today, which made for a very interesting race. We had five riders in the finals – more than ever in the history of the team – and we again have very good results to show.

Ruaridh Cunningham was our best rider throughout the season and again he didn’t disappoint. His time of 3:41.799 was fast enough for 23rd. Reece Wilson was just one tenth of a second behind – he finished the race in 26th. Reece really did a good job in his first elite season, qualifying on each of the events and had very good finals for most of the time. Just keep on doing what you are doing Reece and the much better results will follow!

Žiga Pandur had a decent run, but he was not happy with 10th place that he had after crossing the finish line. Time however wasn’t that bad and Žiga finished the season with decent 51st. Jure Žabjek was our fastest qualifier on Saturday, and our last man on the course. His split times were decent, but in the last section he went over the bars and lost all hopes for a good result. He was 71st.

Zarja Černilogar had a similar run, she also crashed and finished the race in 21st.

Ruaridh is our best rider in the final overall standings – he finished the season in 24th. Reece is 39th, Žiga 79th, and Jure 102nd. Zarja is 27th in the women standings.

Race winners are Rachel Atherton and Aaron Gwin, they are also the World Cup winners.

Ruaridh Cunningham after the race in Val di Sole: “I think it was pretty good. Didn’t feel all that confortable whole week, was struggling a little bit with jetlag and a little bit of sickness. As the days went on, as the practice went on I felt more confident. This morning I probably felt the best I had. Run was OK. There was couple of spots where I could definitely pushed it a lot harder, and I definitely struggled physically towards the end, as a lot of other people. Another solid result and maintained the 24th overall, which is personal best for me. Consistent again and a good platform to build for next year.”
