Downhill Maribor was part of the music & sports festival that took place on BMX & dirt track in the city center and famous DH track on Pohorje mountain. Both locations are very well known to some of the fastest riders out there, but this time the racing was on for the points of the Slovenian and Croatian downhill cup.
Jure Žabjek was by far most successful Slovenian DH rider in 2016 season, and again proved how fast he is. He was second in the first run, couple of seconds down on Miran Vauh. However he pushed the pedals in his final run, improved on his time and won the race.
Jure is also overall winner of the Slovenian DH Cup for 2016 season.
This is what Jure said after the race: “I’m really happy that we again have a race in Maribor, I always liked this track. My quali run was clean, but I pushed the pedals even harder in the finals. Open parts of the track were getting slippery due to some rain, but nothing changed in the forest – it was as fast and as dry as in the past days. It was a great victory that also gives me points to take the overall.”
